Leading the Future of Corporate Housing: Dwellworks Living at CHPA CONNECT 2025
The February 17-19 CHPA CONNECT 2025 conference in San Diego was a landmark event for the corporate housing industry, bringing together property operators, owners and agents, innovators, and key stakeholders from around the world. At Dwellworks Living, we are proud to be champions of industry progress, not just as member attendees, but as thought leaders providing research, support, and advocacy to help our partners thrive and to drive greater engagement across our ecosystem in the shared best interest of clients, guests and service providers. We were proud to be the Sustainability Sponsor at CHPA Connect 2025 (as we were in 2024). Continuing in our role as co-chair of the CHPA Sustainability Task Force, we also proudly affirmed our commitment by being a founding sponsor of the CHPA Carbon Calculator for measuring greenhouse gas emissions in furnished living.
Spearheading Sustainability Initiatives
Sustainability in corporate housing is not a marketing message—it’s an essential business priority for clients committed to reducing their carbon footprint and lowering global emissions. As a leading housing solutions agency in our industry, Dwellworks Living has provided guidance to our provider network, looking for standards and reasonable guidelines to follow on their journey to sustainability. A key client expectation in both global mobility and global business travel is to receive carbon emissions reporting in a standardized, scientifically validated format.
Introducing the CHPA Carbon Calculator
One of the biggest highlights of CHPA CONNECT 2025 was the introduction of the CHPA Carbon Calculator, an initiative that we were proud to advocate for and support. As founding sponsors of the Calculator, Dwellworks Living and other leading CHPA members have contributed to developing this standardized, science-based tool in partnership with hospitality sustainability specialist Greenview. This calculator is a game-changer for corporate housing providers, allowing for unbiased, scalable emissions measurement and reporting.
Learning from the efforts of GBTA and the Sustainable Housing Alliance, this tool and the communications program that will support it will empower corporate housing operators to track data in standardized formats and meet requirements from corporate, relocation, and travel clients. By providing transparent and objective data, the Calculator will enable the entire industry to understand current baselines and make informed decisions about the actions required to meet expected sustainability performance.
Why Sustainability Matters in Corporate Housing
As corporate clients place greater emphasis on sustainability goals, the expectations for accommodation providers have changed. More than ever, clients require measurable data and clear accountability for the carbon footprint of the suppliers who participate in their travel and global mobility programs. This expectation necessitates an industry-wide credible response and Dwellworks Living is proud to be among those leading this important next step in our sustainability evolution.
The CHPA Carbon Calculator is more than just a tool—it’s a transformative solution that will guide corporate housing providers toward actionable and manageable sustainability efforts. Through the reports generated by this calculator, and similar emissions data gathered from other suppliers of travel and mobility services, companies can effectively measure and manage their carbon footprint, define their expectations, and work in partnership and transparency with their supplier.
Shaping a Sustainable Future Through Thought Leadership
Conference Sessions with the Dwellworks Living Team
We were honored to lead discussions that reinforced the value of partnership to address the challenges of our industry. One of the topics that delivered this message was this Extended Education session:
Simplifying Sustainability:
A Practical Workshop to Guide Building Your Sustainability Action Plan
Led by Debbie Woodley, Dwellworks Living’s Vice President, Global Supply Chain, Jo Layton, CEO and Founder at CAP Worldwide, and Phil Stapleton, CEO at SITU; this session provided CHPA members with a practical roadmap for integrating sustainability into their business strategies as these organizations have already done. Corporate clients now demand data-driven sustainability initiatives and demonstrate commitments to sustainable actions, and our industry must rise to the challenge. Perhaps even more importantly, sustainably thrives when it is an organic value of a business that has a strong sense of purpose, is committed to the wellbeing of its employees, customers, and community, and embeds ‘simple sustainability’ into daily practice. During the session, we shared actionable strategies from global housing providers who have successfully delivered these expectations. Attendees walked away with practical tools to assess their current sustainability status, define clear goals, and implement measurable improvements that align with stakeholder expectations.
This workshop also served as a foundational session for the introduction of the CHPA Carbon Calculator, equipping providers with the knowledge and resources to leverage this tool effectively.
Key Takeaways from the Sustainability Workshop
Attendees of this session left with:
- A clear understanding of the current sustainability expectations within corporate housing.
- Actionable steps to build a sustainability strategy that aligns with corporate client requirements.
- Insight into how global housing peers have successfully implemented sustainability initiatives.
- An introduction to integrating the CHPA Carbon Calculator into their measurement and reporting processes.
Driving Industry-Wide Change
At Dwellworks Living, we believe in leading by example. Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond words—it’s embedded in our operations, partnerships, and strategic vision. We annually engage our supply chain partners in a survey regarding their adoption of sustainable actions and measure our on sustainable progress by carefully managing our physical footprint and reducing our carbon-based emissions. By actively contributing to industry-wide tools, policies, and best practices, we are ensuring that our corporate housing partners worldwide are equipped to meet the evolving demands of clients, guests, and the environment.
The Role of Data in Sustainable Decision-Making
With sustainability expectations becoming increasingly data-driven, corporate housing providers must have access to precise and reliable measurement tools. On behalf of our supplier network, encompassing thousands of corporate housing operators in 125 countries, we advocated that the only practical solution for meeting this reporting requirement was a standardized, brand-agnostic tool supported by CHPA. With the leadership of CHPA’s board, the Sustainability Task Force, early sponsors, and Greenview, the CHPA Calculator has been developed and will soon be launched.
The CHPA Carbon Calculator allows providers to:
- Track their carbon emissions across multiple locations and housing types.
- Compare their sustainability efforts against industry benchmarks.
- Develop and refine strategies for reducing their environmental impact.
- Provide accurate and consistent reporting to clients who demand transparency.
