Taking Action for a Sustainable Planet

Dwellworks and Dwellworks Living are proud to support our global associates’ volunteer efforts in sustainability and community engagement. Roxana Serban, a Global Supply Chain Coordinator for Dwellworks Living temporary housing services, based in Costa Rica is also an active member of the Asociación Costa Rica Mundo SOStenible.

Last month, the Municipality of La Union in Costa Rica inaugurated a long-awaited Tree Nursery project. As Roxana shared, “This is the fulfillment of a dream for all the local communities who have been working hard to restore the green areas in their neighborhoods and to rebuild urban biological connectivity.”

Thanks to the planting efforts of local volunteers, The Nursery now provides saplings of native trees, specific to the local area, which will be used to support future ecological restoration projects. Costa Rica is famous for its biodiversity. Within its borders are nearly 5% of the earth’s diverse species and over 2,300 unique trees and plants. With the Tree Nursery and similar projects, local communities are hoping to sustain the previously diverse and native habitats of their cities and urban areas.

A healthy environment provides a safe home not only to the local fauna and flora but is also essential for mental and physical wellbeing. “Pura Vida” is the way of life in Costa Rica, where what is good for the planet is good for the people. Members of the Mundo SOStenible organization presented their mission during the Tree Nursery event and provided a real time example of the collective positive impact of small efforts and committed volunteers who take action against climate change.
